James’ expertise in national and international property law sets him apart from other lawyers on the Gold Coast. As Partner and head of MBA Lawyers Property team, James has experience with multiple top tier law firms working on a range of billion-dollar commercial projects. His projects include advising in relation to the development and retail leasing for Dubai’s $1.5B Meydan One Mall project, acting for APLNG in relation to its $23B Queensland gas project, including development of a gas processing facility at Curtis Island, Gladstone, and acting for Sunland on its luxury Brisbane development, Abian.
James’ extensive experience also expands to advising clients on all aspects of real estate transactions including acquisition, development, and disposal, as well as commercial, industrial, and retail leasing. He has a keen understanding of joint venture agreements, development agreements and other real estate ownership and structuring vehicles.
James graduated from Griffith University in 2004 with a double degree in Law (honour) and Arts. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2005. In his career he has worked for top tier and international law firms such as Clayton Utz, Allens Linklaters and Pinsent Masons. He practised for several years in the United Arab Emirates where he was listed in the Legal 500 (UAE), Law Firm and Leading Lawyer Rankings Real Estate in 2019. During his time in Dubai, he also advised operators and owners in relation to hotel developments, including negotiating complex hotel management agreements.
James returned to the Gold Coast in 2019 to call Queensland home again when his son was born. Today he enjoys spending time with his family at the beach and watching the odd game of cricket and rugby.
