About Julien Criard

Julien is a triple-qualified lawyer in Australia, France, and the United Kingdom, specialising in resolving complex, high-value, and cross-border disputes. He brings a rare cross-jurisdictional perspective to MBA Lawyers’ Litigation Team, with a practice spanning both civil and common law systems and advising on intricate commercial transactions and litigation across multiple jurisdictions.

Julien combines front-end advisory and transactional expertise with strong litigation capability, acting for corporates, developers, financial institutions, and high-net-worth individuals across Australia, Europe, and the Asia–Pacific region.

Julien’s practice spans a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure and construction, where he advises on major energy, transport, education, and telecommunications projects under various contracting models, including PPP, EPC/EPCM, O&M, D&C, bespoke contracts, as well as the Australian Standards.

In technology and financial services, Julien leads negotiations on cloud, SaaS, outsourcing, IP licensing, and data privacy agreements, with compliance experience spanning ASX, ASIC, MiFID II, GDPR, EBA, FED, OCC, FCA, and MAS frameworks.

Julien also has significant experience in succession and estate litigation, representing clients in contested wills, family provision applications, domicile disputes, and cross-border estate administration, including matters before the Supreme Court of Queensland. In international litigation, he has acted on a high-profile commercial dispute before the High Court in London and complex proceedings in both French and Australian courts, drawing on his French Avocat à la Cour background, a role combining the advisory and courtroom advocacy functions of a barrister and solicitor, to deliver persuasive, strategically focused representations.

Fluent in English and French, Julien leverages his international training and litigation background to provide clients with strategic, commercially practical solutions, often under challenging circumstances and tight timeframes.
Julien is also actively involved in the local community through his role as a committee member of a Gold Coast Body Corporate, contributing to the governance, administration, and long-term planning of the scheme.

Outside of work, Julien enjoys building Lego and playing rugby with his sons, and plays football weekly with Australian and international players. He also pursues his passions for history and linguistics, continuing to learn Spanish, German, and Austronesian languages.
